Here’s the next “Books Off the Shelf” installment. There is a world of books out there. More than anyone could get to in a lifetime. As my favorite mug states so succinctly, “So Many Books, So Little Time”. I will attempt to give you an idea on some books you might enjoy or not enjoy quite as much without ruining it with too many spoilers.
I’m also trying to give the books a one to ten rating with ten being amazingly the best (or let’s be honest one of the best) books I have ever read and you need to go home sick to buy and read this book without delay and a one being please don’t bother even looking at the cover of this drivel. Steelheart (Reckoners Book 1) By Brandon Sanderson Rating: 8.5 out of 10 How far would you go for revenge if someone killed your father? If someone destroyed your city? If everything you ever loved was taken from you? David Charleston will go to any lengths to stop Steelheart. But to exact revenge in Steelheart’s world, David will need the Reckoners—a shadowy group of rebels bent on maintaining justice. And it turns out that the Reckoners might just need David too. Chicago has been renamed Newcago and superheroes are real, or rather superpowers are real. Sanderson gives us fascinating re-envisioning of what a world where individuals have superpowers might look like. There is no upholding of truth, justice and the American way. With great power comes great ability to abuse that power for one’s own gain. What would a world look like where Superman was a villain named Steelheart? Pick up Sanderson’s book and you’ll find out. This is a ride from start to finish with no dull moments between. Steelheart is incredibly imaginative with plenty of twists and turns, but then this is Sanderson we are talking about so that should come as no surprise to anyone. It is worth mentioning that Steelheart is a YA book unlike Sanderson’s Mistborn Trilogy, The Way of Kings, and others. None the less, even in the shorter space of a YA book, Sanderson pulls off another brilliant story. It’s definitely worth the read. Check it out! Have you read Steelheart? I’d love to hear your thoughts on it or any of Sanderson’s books. I have the second Reckoner’s book, Firefight, on my list to read, so I’ll let you know my thoughts once I’m finished. And as ever, if you have suggestions of books to review, please let me know. If it is Science Fiction or Fantasy, there is a good chance it is on my shelf or should be. If you would like to be the first to hear about other great books, feel free to sign up on the right. I’ll also be sending out some free giveaways for my upcoming novel, MIST FALCON. I would love to send them your way, so do me a favor and sign up. |
